Box Score BRONX, NY - A two-run sixth inning for Fordham proved to be the difference in the Iona College baseball team's 4-3 defeat. The Gaels stranded the tying run on base in the top of the night in the hard fought loss.
Fordham got on the board in their first at bat taking a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish. Iona halved its deficit in the top of the third inning. Rookie 1B
Christian Choman scored on a delayed steal attempt with two outs in the inning.
The Rams added key insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and led 4-1. In the seventh, junior
Joe Smith plated rookie
Matt Byrne with a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth, an infield single by rookie
Matt Hratko's infield single with one out got the Gaels to within a run in their last at bat. Fordham induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the rally and the contest.
Hratko was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Five other Gaels recorded a hit in the contest.
Junior LHP
Eddie Macaluso tossed five innings allowing two runs on six hits in the loss. Senior
Conan Leon completed the game with two scoreless relief innings.
The Gaels are back in action at Fordham Saturday afternoon when they take on Lehigh at 3:00 pm.
