TOWSON, MD - A lone first inning run would be all the Iona Softball team would need as sophomore
Carly Argyle pitched a complete eight strikeout gem to propel the Gaels to a 1-0 victory over Columbia in the team's first matchup of the 2013 Towson Invitational Tournament.
In the bottom of the first, sophomore
Allison Hand got on base with a one out double before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Senior
Beth Kann followed and delivered a single down the left field line to plate Hand with the only run of the ballgame.
Argyle allowed just seven base runners over her seven innings, on three walks, three singles and an Iona error. Argyle got stronger as the game went on as the Lions put two runners on in the first two innings but were retired in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
Iona looks to keep the momentum going Saturday in a pair of contest, beginning at 10:30 am against Lehigh and at 12:45 against the host Tigers.
