Stony Brook Defeats Iona Baseball, 5-1

STONY BROOK, NY - The Iona College baseball team fell 5-1 to Stony Brook in non-conference action at Joe Nathan Field. The Seawolves used a four-run sixth inning help lead them to a win.

Senior 3B Matthew Kriss and DH Chris Sand along with junior RF Joe Smith and freshman RF Joseph Sessa each had a hit. Sand's seventh inning double accounted for the Gaels' lone run.

Sophomore RHP Mariano Rivera allowed three hits and struck out four in the first three innings of the contest in the no decision. Senior RHP Kenny Dietrich took the loss in relief.

The Gaels are back in action this weekend in Philadelphia. Iona takes on Villanova Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am. Sunday, the Maroon & Gold plays a single contest at Saint Joseph's.
