QUEENS, NY - The Iona College softball team dropped a non-conference road matchup to St. John's 9-1 Saturday afternoon at Red Storm Field. Senior Beth Kann led the Gaels with two of the team's three total hits, including its lone RBI on a solo home run.

The Red Storm got the offense going right away in the first inning with two innings, including a first pitch leadoff home run by Chrissy Montez.

St John's would take a 3-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second before Iona scored its lone run in the top of the third when Kann delivered her fifth home run of the season with two outs.

The Red Storm would plate four runs in the fifth inning, before ending the contest with two more runs in the sixth inning.

Freshman Jordan Courage took the loss for Iona, allowing nine runs, seven earned, over 5.1 innings. Tori Free earned the win in relief for St. John's, allowing two hits and one run in 3.1 innings.

Iona is back in action Sunday when they visit Rider for a MAAC doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 pm.
