Box Score 2 WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The Iona College baseball team fell 16-4 at William & Mary in non-conference action at Plumeri Park. After knotting the score at 2-2 in the second inning the Gaels surrendered 14 runs before getting its final two in the top of the eighth.
Sophomore C Carmine Palummo was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. With one out and a runner on in the second, Palummo hit his first collegiate home run over the center field fence. Sophomore SS Vinny DeMaria, senior 2B Bobby Vitulano and rookie C Chris Russo each recorded hits for the Gaels.
Sophomore RHP Mariano Rivera took the loss tossing the first four innings of the contest. Junior RHP Steve Basile pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth inning while senior Kenny Dietrich and rookie Mike Fuchs combined for the eighth and ninth.
Seven Tribe performers had multiple hits led by a 4-for-5, five RBI effort by 1B Michael Katz. John Sheehan allowed two runs over six innings in his first win of the season.
The Gaels and Tribe complete a three-game series at noon on Sunday. First pitch was moved up an hour to beat the threat of the impending winter storm.
