Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision to the Big East's Seton Hall in non-conference action at City Park. The No. 19 ranked Pirates (17-4) - as listed on ESPN.com's College Baseball Power Rankings - scored six runs in the first three innings to defeat the Gaels (3-12).
Rookie C Chris Russo collected an infield hit with two outs in the fifth inning and sophomore SS Vinny DeMaria doubled with two down in the sixth for the Gaels two hits in the ball game.
Sophomore RHP Mariano Rivera (1-2) took the loss in four innings of work. Sophomore LHP Andrew Pucillo allowed two unearned runs and three hits in three innings and relief while senior RHP Kenny Dietrich gave up a hit while facing the minimum in the eighth and ninth innings.
Seton Hall SS D.J. Ruhlman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. CF Derek Jenkins also had three hits with a run scored and two RBI. RHP Josh Prevost tossed eight innings of two-hit ball with 11 strike outs. The Pirates' ace improved to 7-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.45 on the season.
The Gaels continue non-conference action during their MAAC bye weekend on Sunday when they travel to Central Connecticut for a doubleheader.
