NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Quinnipiac swept a doubleheader from the Iona College baseball team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at City Park. The Bobcats took the opener 3-0 and the night cap 2-1 in eight innings.

Quinnipiac RHP Thomas Jankins kept the Gaels off the scoreboard for all nine innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out eight batters. The Bobcats scored in the first, third and fifth innings to take the game.

Senior RHP Kenny Dietrich tossed eight strong innings, scattering three hits and allowing two earned runs and a walk to go along with five strikeouts. Rookie RHP Vinny Martin pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Senior CF Joe Torres led off the game with a base hit. Following rookie C Alex Beckett's single in the fourth inning, Jankins retired 16 straight batters before junior LF Jimmy Guiliano's single with two outs in the ninth inning.

Sophomore RHP Mariano Rivera dueled with Quinnipiac LHP Justin Thomas over the first six innings. A two-out base hit by C Lou Ianotti was followed by a bloop RBI double down the line by 1B Vincent Guglietti to account for the visitor's first run.

The Gaels tied the score in the fourth inning. Guiliano's one out single was followed by a walk to sophomore 1B Christian Choman. Sophomore DH Zach Brown followed with an RBI single to even the score at 1-1.

Both teams threatened in the sixth inning but couldn't get a run across. Quinnipiac left two on while the Gaels left the bases loaded.

Rivera tossed 113 pitches in six innings of work, allowing a run on four hits with six strikeouts. He walked six batters in the no-decision. Sophomore LHP Andrew Pucillo took the loss in relief.

Thomas was lifted after 5.1 innings. He allowed a run on five hits with a strikeout. LHP Matthew Osieja earned the win in relief, while RHP Gary Binkiewicz picked up the save.
