NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College softball team completed a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference sweep of Siena Monday afternoon with a 6-4 victory over the Saints in the resumption of a game suspended by rain Saturday afternoon. The Gaels are now 12-6 in league play.

The Gaels got all six of their runs during the weekend, including five in the first inning. Freshman Kristen Turner drove in two runs with a double to left field and later scored on an RBI single by sophomore Sarah Schutz. Senior Katie Jansson completed the scoring for Iona when she connected on a home run to left field, her fourth of the season.

Siena trimmed the lead to three with two runs in the top of the third. Viggiano delivered an RBI double to left field for the Saints before Carpenter drove in Viggiano with a single to left later in the inning.

The Gaels plated their final run of the contest in the third inning when junior Carly Argyle drove in classmate Brianna Schauer with a double to left field.  

In the fourth inning, the first inning of Monday's resumption, Siena got the only run of the day on an RBI double to left center by Lloyd.

The Maroon & Gold was held to just two hits over the final three innings on Monday, but were able to hold on for their 18th win of the season.

Sophomore Jordan Courage earned her fifth win of the season, allowing five hits and four runs, one earned, over seven innings while striking out six. The Gaels are back in action Wednesday at 2:30 pm, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson in a non-conference doubleheader.
