Box Score PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Iona College baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to Rutgers in non-conference action at Bainton Field. The Scarlet Knights scored a run in each of the first six innings to seal the win.
The Gaels scored all four even innings in the contest. Senior 3B Bobby Vitulano drove in a run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly that scored sophomore 1B Christian Choman. In the fourth, it was Vitulano again with a single up the middle to plate Choman for a second time. In the sixth, senior CF Joe Torres drove in rookie 2B Tyler Bruno on a groundout. Iona scored twice in the eighth inning as Torres drove in Bruno again with a single through the left side. Vitulano came home on a balk with two outs and junior LF Jimmy Guiliano at the plate.
Vitulano was the offensive star going 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Guiliano and sophomore SS Vinny DeMaria each had two hits in the contest as Iona recorded 13 total in the game while drawing five walks.
Junior RHP Jake Kurz took the loss tossing the game's first two innings. Sophomore LHP Andrew Pucillo and RHP John Daddino closed out the game with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Gaels continue action on the road in New Jersey in a three-game MAAC series with Saint Peter's beginning with a doubleheader Saturday.
