SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Iona College swimming and diving jumped back into competition yesterday after a nearly five week mid-semester break Wednesday evening at Seton Hall. The Pirates got the best of the Gaels on the women's side outscoring the Gaels 167-117 and on the men's side, 190-96.
“Seton Hall had some great front line talent that we had trouble matching up with,” according to Iona Coach Nick Cavataro.
“In the half dozen races where we grabbed the top spot, we often could not add to that in the top three scoring slots and Seton Hall pulled ahead.”
For Iona, Keegan Boisson-Yates won the men's 100-fly at 53.67; Alexandra DiBiase took both the 100 and 200-fly events with respective times of 1:01.18 and 2:12.96. Elizabeth Kaczmarek won the 200-IM at 2:18.28, Mary Ellen Mangione claimed the 200-breaststroke at 2:29.34 and Collin Purrman won the 200-IM on the men's side at 2:03.66.
In diving action Alicia Raffle was second on the one-meter board at 171.25; Charles Blaschinski claimed a pair of third finishes on the one and three-meter boards with totals of 197.10 and 209.77, respectively. Brittney Liddy was third and fourth respectively on the 3-meter board at 146.55 and on 1-M at 144.75-points.
Iona continues a challenging five day period of meets Friday when it travels to Fordham and then returns home Sunday for a dual meet with Saint Peter's and Delaware
“This is a very tough schedule stretch," commented Cavataro. "But it provides challenging competition in every heat and is great preparation for MAACs."
