Box Score 2 CARY, NC - The Iona College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Missouri to complete a four game series with the Tigers at the USA Baseball Complex. The Gaels fell 6-3 in the opener and 14-2 in the nightcap.
Sophomore RF Kyle DiVico and sophomore 3B Tyler Bruno each had two hits to lead the Gaels. Bruno and junior C Carmine Palummo earned RBI in the loss.
The Gaels trailed 3-0 after the first inning but closed the gap to 4-3 after three innings before a two run seventh inning closed out the scoring for the Tigers.
Junior RHP Mariano Rivera took the loss, allowing three earned runs over five innings and 100 pitches.
Missouri scored in every turn at bat in game two, breaking the game open with eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Five different Gaels recorded hits including senior DH Steve Basile, juniors DH Zach Brown and LF Travis Mistretta and rookies 3B Seth Hoagland and CF Jon Budesa.
Junior RHP Max Bruckner took the loss allowing five runs in three innings.
Iona returns to action next weekend and returns to North Carolina for four games at the Blue Devil Classic hosted by Duke University. The Gaels take on Delaware State, Hartford and the host Blue Devels next Friday (Feb. 20) through Sunday (Feb. 22).
