The Iona College softball team (4-15) travels to Long Island Wednesday afternoon for a midweek non-conference doubleheader against Hofstra University (15-7-1).
PLAYERS TO WATCH
During the Gaels' opening slate of league games, sophomore Ashlyn Morris posted a team high .429 batting average with a double and two runs scored. Junior Christine Costello is hitting a team best .318 with runners on base, while sophomore Katie Newton is hitting .316 with runners on, and .455 with two strikes.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
The Pride sit at 15-7-1 on the season, and are in the midst of a eight game winning streak. Hofstra opened up league play this past weekend with a three game sweep of Towson at home. The Pride have played five nationally ranked teams this season, and hold a victory over than No. 20 Notre Dame on Feb. 15.
Junior outfielder Chloe Fitzgerald leads Hofstra with a .372 batting average, and has scored 12 runs. Junior outfielder Caryn Bailey is hitting .351, and is tied with two others for the team lead in home runs (three). Senior hurler Morgan Lashley has posted a 1.76 earned run average and 9-1 record in 15 appearances. The Hofstra staff owns a 2.25 overall ERA.
