WILMINGTON, NC - The Iona College baseball team fell to UNC Wilmington 11-1 in non-conference action at Brooks Field to open its five-game North Carolina trip Friday afternoon.

Junior 1B Lou Matarazzo accounted for the Gaels run with a one-out solo home run over the centerfield fence in the top of the fifth inning. Matarazzo and senior C Carmine Palummo each had two hits in the loss.

Sophomore Jared Finkel took the loss allowing seven earned runs over four innings pitched. Senior RHP Jake Kurz pitched the middle 2.2 innings before sophomore RHP Ryan Preusse closed the final 1.1.

The two teams compete in the middle game of their three game series tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
