WILMINGTON, NC - The Iona College baseball team fell to UNC Wilmington 11-4 in the middle game of a three-game series in non-conference action at Brooks Field. The Gaels pounded out 10 hits, but fell short on the scoreboard.

Junior 3B Matt Byrne, junior DH Lou Matarazzo and senior C Carmine Palummo had two hits apiece. Senior LF Travis Mistretta recorded a solo home run with two-out in the fifth inning, his second of the season. Matarazzo recorded his first triple in Maroon & Gold and senior RF Kyle DiVico also had an extra base hit with a fifth inning double.

UNCW scored six first inning runs to take a lead it did not relinquish.

Junior RHP Bill Maier took the loss, tossing four innings. Junior LHPs Andrew Pucillo and Andrew Camiolo tossed scoreless fifth and seventh innings respectively as the Gaels most effective relievers.

The two teams complete the series tomorrow afternoon in Wilmington.
