NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Sacred Heart scored two in the top of the seventh in a 4-3 defeat of the Iona College baseball team in non-conference action at City Park. The Gaels took a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the fifth before the Pioneers retook the lead in the next half inning.

Senior LF Travis Mistretta was 2-for-4 on the day, beating out infield hits in the first and sixth innings. He scored a go-ahead run in the sixth frame. Junior 3B Matt Byrne, freshman 2B Sean Breen, sophomore 1B Lou Matarazzo and freshman DH Niko Switalla all recorded base hits in the loss. Byrne and Breen accounted for the Gaels other runs while Breen, Matarazzo and senior C Carmine Palummo collected RBI.

Sophomore RHP Jared Finkel took the hill to start the contest and scattered five hits over four innings with two runs surrendered. After two scoreless innings by rookie RHP Antonio Velardi got the Gaels through six, the Pioneers put runners on second and third with no out to start the seventh. After a sac bunt, junior LHP Andrew Camiolo came on to try and hold the visiting team off the scoreboard. He induced a pop up to third base from the first batter. On a 3-2 offering, 2B Jesus Medina hit a double to left field to score the tying and go-ahead runs. Sophomore RHP Kyle Ackley and senior RHP Alex Fishberg tossed 1-2-3 eighth and ninth innings in relief.

The Gaels complete the 2016 campaign on the road in a three-game MAAC series at Manhattan at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY on Thursday and Friday. Stay tuned to ICGaels.com for start times.
