Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The University of Albany scored seven runs throughout the eighth and ninth innings to rally from a 4-1 deficit and upend the Iona College baseball team 8-4 earlier this afternoon at City Park.
With the Maroon & Gold (14-17) leading 4-1 after seven inning played, the Great Danes (14-20) scored three runs in the top of the eighth to even the score at 4-4 with just one hit recorded. Kyle Sacks led the inning off with a walk and later scored on a one out double from Evan Harasta for the first run of the frame. Harasta scored the second run to bring Albany within 4-3 on a gorund out from Travis Collins before a fielding error allowed Kevin Donati to score the tying run.
In the ninth, with the first batters recording outs, the visitors strung together back-to-back hit by pitches before Harasta drove in the winning run on a single to center field with a second run coming in on the play due to a fielding error in the outfield. Three more singles in the inning helped add three more runs as Albany held on for the 8-4 win.
The Great Danes scored the first run of the game as Marc Wagenstein scored on a ground out. The Gaels tied the game in the fourth on a Sean Scales RBI single beore scoring twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to increase the lead to 4-1.
In the fifth, Sean Breen drove in Fran Kinsey on a RBI single before Niko Switalla placed a sacrifice bunt perfectly in front of the plate to score Matt Byrne. Jon Budesa added to the advantage in the sixth with a RBI single to score Sean Scales.
Looking ahead, Iona travels to the Capital Region this weekend to face Siena in Loudonville starting on Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
