Box Score LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona College baseball team moved to 10-5 in the MAAC this season following today's 8-3 win at Siena to complete the three-game weekend series sweep.
The Gaels (17-17, 10-5 MAAC) broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the eighth followed by another two in the ninth to secure the five-run win. Tyler Bruno recorded a pair of hits and two runs to lead the effort while Matt Byrne added two runs and a hit. Bruno and Byrne were two of the six individuals to record a RBI.
Iona scored the opening two runs with two outs in the top of the third. With Bruno and Byrne on second and third, Fran Kinsey reached on a fielding error to allow the two runs to score and give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Jordan Bishop tied the game in the next half inning on one swing, a double to right center to plate two runs.
Joe Drpich hit his third homerun of the weekend in the fifth inning to push Siena (14-24-2, 5-10 MAAC) ahead 3-2. Another two out rally in the seventh allowed the Gaels to tie the game as Sean Breen singled in Bruno as the infielder led the inning off with a base hit.
Leading off the eighth, Sean Scales doubled down the right field line. In the next at-bat, Alex Beckett singled in Scales for the go ahead run before Bryne added a RBI triple. Bruno brought Byrne home with a sacrifice fly to concluded the scoring in the inning.
Scales added a RBI to his day in the ninth to push Iona ahead 7-3 on a groundout. Joseph Lovecchio produced the only hit of the inning to score Breen on an unearned run to secure the 8-3 win.
Iona is next in action on Tuesday, traveling to 18th ranked St. Johns for a 6:00 pm non-conference tilt.
