Box Score STONY BROOK, NY – Undone by seven early runs from Stony Brook, the Iona College baseball program dropped its nonconference tilt against the Seawolves, 13-2.
Freshman Jason Antalek and senior Jake Kurz, the first two arms to take the mound for the Gaels, allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits and three walks over the course of 3.1 innings. Following the early troubles, five different hurlers pooled to allow two runs on three hits and four walks. Combined, the Gaels struck out seven Stony Brook batters.
Iona got two hits apiece from senior leadoff hitter Tyler Bruno, and sophomore leftfielder Joe DeMaio. He had one of the Gaels two RBI, the other coming from junior first basemen Lou Matarazzo. Freshman designated hitter Stephen Hansen collected a base-knock.
The Gaels stranded seven runners on base compared to 17 for the Seawolves.
The Gaels return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 11 at home against New York Institute of Technology. First pitch at City Park is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
