NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College Women's Water Polo program collected a cumulative GPA of 3.63, leading the nation for the 2016-2017 scholastic year, as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).
The Gaels tied with Washington & Jefferson University, who also collected a 3.63 GPA. California Baptist (3.56), Harvard (3.52) and Long Beach State (3.50) rounded out the top five.
Nine Iona students were named to the ACWPC All-Academic List. Six students earned "Outstanding" recognition (3.71-4.0), two earned "Superior" (3.41-3.70), and one was honored with an "Excellent" (3.4-3.2) grade.
Senior Darby Nevins, juniors Britten Vilander, Hannah Schultz, Karli Normand, Megan Hofer, and freshman Regan Warmoth garnered a grade of "Outstanding." Senior Rebecca Koshy and junior Devika Joshi earned a rating of "Superior" and sophomore Alyssa Gayapa earned an "Excellent" grade.
Head Coach Brian Kelly on his squad's accomplishments,"I'm very proud of the team, this is an amazing accomplishment. This group really came together, both in and out of the water, and was one of the closest knit teams I have ever had. I'm very proud of their efforts."
