EMMITSBURG, MD – Continuing a five-game win streak, including four straight conference victories, Iona women's water team defeated Blue Division first-place Marist College 14-13 this morning and second-place Mount Saint Mary's University 16-12 this afternoon in two crucial Metro Atlantic Athletic matches here today.

Trailing by only two goals at halftime, Iona outscored Marist 8-5 in the second half to earn a one-goal 14-13 upset. Junior

Lilly Morris had seven saves 22 Marist shots, one steal and 13 goals against. On defense, the Gaels made six steals and blocked two shots. Iona drew 12 Marist kickouts with four by McNabb and three each by Sallas and freshman
Grace Goldhammer, while being ejected 11 times. Neither squad was assessed a five-meter penalty. The Gaels turned the ball over six times. Trujillo won all four swim offs.
With 1:15 gone in the match, Williams capitalized on a woman-up chance to give Iona a 1-0 edge. Marist answered with two straight goals to tie the score at one-all, then go up one 2-1 with 2:23 left in the opening period. After Ickes knotted the game at two, the Red Foxes regained a one-goal advantage at the 1;14 mark. With 20 ticks left, Marist scored on a 6-4 advantage for a two-goal 4-2 lead going into the second period.
Sallas needed only 37 seconds into the second quarter to slice the Red Foxes lead back to one 4-3. With two straight scores, Marist mounted a three-goal 6-3 lead with 5:49 remaining. After Weissmann got Iona back with two, Marist scored to regain a three-score edge 7-4 with 3:15 to go.On the Gaels next chance, Collins cut the Red Foxes edge back to two 7-5 with 2:10 on the clock. Following another Red Foxes score, with 34 ticks left McNabb pulled the Gaels with two 8-6 at halftime.
In the third period, Iona outscored Marist 6-2. Continuing a 3-0 run, Sallas and Trujillo tied the score at eight with just 49 seconds gone in the third quarter. Iona retook a one-goal 9-8 advantage on Williams' second goal with 5:27 left. Extending a 5-0 rally, Weissman's second score upped the Gaels edge to two 10-8 with 4:08 left. Trujillo's second goal resulted in a three-score Iona 11-8 until two unanswered Marist goals ended the Gaels offensive streak to get back with one 11-10 with 1:19 remaining. Sallas found the back of the net for the third time as Iona went back up two 12-10 with 51 ticks left.
Marist got back within one 12-11 with 1:40 gone in the fourth period. The Red Foxes briefly tied the score at 12, but McNabb's two consecutive scores put the Gaels back up two 14-12 with 1:46 remaining. Marist cut the Iona edge back to one 14-13 on its next possession with 46 seconds to go. After calling time out with 20 seconds left, Marist pulled its goalie for an extra field player, but Morris tipped away a last-second shot to preserve Iona's upset 14-13 win and snapping Marist's eight-game MAAC win streak.
Iona 16 Mount St. Mary's 12
For the second time in seven days, Iona defeated the Mount by an identical 16-12 score this afternoon on the Mountaineers Senior Day. Trujillo and McNabb led the Maroon and Gold with three goals each, while Collins, Ickes, Sallas, Williams and Goldhammer each scored twice. The Gaels scored 16 goals on 22 shots and had 12 assists with four by Collins and three by Williams.

Trujillo won three of four swim offs. The Gaels scored three woman-up goals on nine chances, while the Mount capitalized on one of 11 opportunities.
The Mountaineers got on the board first with two straight goals for a 2-0 edge with 5:41 left in the opening period. On the Gaels next possession, McNabb sliced the home lead back to one 2-1. Collins tied the score at two-all with 3:06 on the clock. Continuing a 3-0 run, Ickes five-meter penalty goal gave the Gaels a 3-2 edge until the Mount reknotted the score at three apiece with 1:14 left. Trujillo put Iona back up one 4-3, but the Mountaineers scored to force a four-all tie going into the second period.
In the opening 1:20 of the second quarter, the squads traded goals with Sallas and Trujillo scoring for the Gaels resulting in a six-all tie. McNabb's second goal restored a one-goal 7-6 edge, but the hosts answered for the match's sixth tie at seven apiece. Trujillo struck for a second time to put Iona back up on 8-7 with 3:46 remaining. Following Morris stopping a Mount five-meter penalty shot, Williams scored with 19 ticks left for a two-goal 9-7 Iona halftime lead.
The Mountaineers needed just 20 seconds into the third period to slice Iona's edge back to one 9-8. Assisted by Morris, Collins answered to restore a two-goal 10-8 Gaels advantage with 6:28 remaining. Goldhammer upped the visitors lead to three 11-8 just 1:02 later, followed by Williams for a 3-0 Iona run and 12-8 lead. Two unanswered home scores reduced the Gaels lead back to two 12-10 with 3:22 on the clock. Goldhammer's second score followed by Ickes' second restored a three-goal 14-10 lead with 2:16 left.
Following McNabb's third score with 20 ticks gone in the fourth period, the Mountaineers narrowed the Gaels edge to four 15-11. Sallas answered with her second goal to mount a five-goal 16-11 with 6:33 left. Despite a Mount goal with 2:38 left, Iona held on for its second MAAC win of the day and a four-game conference win streak.
