NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's basketball was defeated by Quinnipiac at the Hynes Athletics Center on Saturday afternoon, 74-38. Junior Alexis Lewis scored her 1,000 career-point in the loss, becoming just the 27th player in program history to surpass that historic milestone.
Lewis has 1,003 points in her Iona career thus far. She currently ranks 27th all-time in program history in scoring. She ranks seventh all-time in program history with 148 career three-pointers and has a 6.7 career-rebounding average, which is tied for the eighth-best in Iona history.
The Maroon & Gold were led by Lewis' 13 points and rookie Toyosi Abiola's tally of 10. Coming off the bench, sophomores Amelia Motz and Tilasha Okey-Williams each had seven points.
Quinnipiac had four players in double figures. Sophomore Taylor Herd and junior Edel Thornton combined to make eight of their team's 13 trifectas; the two combined for 28 points on 9-for-19 shooting. Redshirt junior Jen Fay had 12 points and senior Carly Fabbri concluded with 10 points. Junior Aryn McClure, the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, had five points, a team-high nine rebounds and five assists.
The Bobcats used a decisive 23-5 third quarter to pull away and hand the Maroon & Gold their fourth conference loss of the year. Quinnipiac scored 24 points of Iona's 27 turnovers. While the Bobcats shot 36% from the floor, they held the Gaels to 28% shooting from the floor and just 13% from beyond the arc.
Lewis ended the game with a game-high 12 rebounds, resulting in her team-leading fifth double-double of the season.
Iona is off until next Saturday, Jan. 13 when the Monmouth Hawks come to the Hynes Center.
