Ferraioli's No-Hitter Earns a Split For Iona Baseball At Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT – The third recorded no-hitter in Iona College baseball program history from sophomore Mario Ferraioli helped earn a split at Quinnipiac this afternoon in Connecticut.

Game Two
Ferraioli struck out 10 and worked around five walks to toss a seven-inning 3-0 no hit victory this afternoon at MAAC leading Quinnipiac. The no hit performance was the first on record since Mike Bertotti.

In support of the pitching performance, the Maroon & Gold got on the board in the second inning as Seth Hoagland advanced to third and then scored on a fielding error during a sacrifice bunt from Derek Becker.

Three innings later, Sean Breen singled through the left side to score Sean Scales before Becker added a RBI single to plate Lou Matarazzo in the sixth and increase the advantage to 3-0.

Ferraioli pitched clean innings in the fourth and seventh innings towards to the no hit bid while stranding five runners throughout the seven-inning performance.

Game One
With Iona leading 1-0 in the eighth, Quinnipiac was able to take advantage of the bases loaded with one out in the bottom half of the inning. Liam Scafariello drew a walk on a 3-1 count tie the game before a sacrifice fly from Evan Vulgamore proved to be the difference as Adre Marrero scored.

In the top of the ninth, Mike Davis was able to earn his fourth save of the season to secure the victory for Taylor Luciani, who moved to 7-2 on the year.

In the effort for Iona, Joe DeRosa logged 7.1 innings in the start with five strikeouts. Sam Punzi was responsible for the lone run of the contest with a RB single in the fifth.
