STONY BROOK, NY– The Iona College baseball program fell to Stony Brook at Joe Nation Field, 4-2. The Seawolves win two of three from the Gaels, splitting the pair played at home on their campus. Freshman third basemen
Jake Field had a team-best three hits and one run batted in.
GAME SUMMARY
Stony Brook got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Its star shortstop Nick Grande tripled down the right field line to begin the game and he'd come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Michael Wilson. With two outs, the Seawolves added one more with Brandon Alamo scoring on a Sean Buckhout single up to centerfield.

The Seawolves scored one run in the sixth inning. A pass ball with the bases loaded allowed the opportunity for Dylan Resk to cross the plate. Their final run came in the bottom of the seventh. Grande scored his second run of the day on an Alamo single through the right side.

The Gaels comeback effort started with two outs in the ninth inning. Senior
Joe DeMaio singled to lead off the frame and was pinch ran for my graduate
Jon Budesa. Following that up, rookie
Daniel Palermo strike out swinging and senior
Niko Switalla grounded out to the first basemen. With two outs, sophomore
Sam Punzi doubled to left center and scored Budesa. Iona's catcher would then come around to score on Field's third hit of the day. The game ended with senior
Fran Kinsey, the tying run, going down swinging.

Michael DeSanti started the game on the rubber for the Maroon & Gold. He pitched 5.2 innings and threw 93 pitches surrendering three runs, two earned against 30 batters faced. Stony Brook have five hits off DeSanti. Freshman
Drew Helmstetter and senior
Antonio Velardio threw the final 2.1 innings of relief.

Will Jennings reached base on a hit.

Stony Brook's Nick DeGennario picked up the win going five innings with six strikeouts. Ben Fero threw three innings of scoreless relief with two hits allowed. Connor Clark pitched the ninth inning.

GAME SUMMARY
- Field has hit in six straight games. He is hitting 9-for-23 (.391) during that stretch with two doubles and one run batted in.
- As of the conclusion of Tuesday's game, Field ranks second on the team in slugging percentage (.391), and hits (26). He is first with 17 runs batted in and total bases (43).
- DeSanti has not allowed more than three runs, or two earned run, in six straight appearances. He tied a season-high with three strikeouts which he had previously collected against Fairleigh Dickinson on Mar. 26.
- Stony Brook left 13 runners on base an Iona stranded three batters.
