Five Iona Programs Honored With NCAA Public Recognition Awards

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR).

This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.  Specifically, those teams recognized posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

Iona College's baseball, softball, men's track & field, women's rowing programs and women's swimming & diving programs were honored by the NCAA for their outstanding achievements in Academic success and progress. Baseball, men's track & field, and women's rowing been recognized four straight seasons. Softball has been honored three straight seasons.

A total of 47 full-time MAAC teams received top 10 percent recognition. Click here search for a full list of the MAAC programs and affiliate members that were honored this year.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention, and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
