NEW ROCHELLE, NY - On a sunny but cool autumn morning the Iona College men's and women's rowing teams concluded their fall season competing as the host at the Metropolitan Championship Regatta.
With both teams performing respectively all around, the men participated in five events, squaring off against Fordham, Fairfield, Manhattan and Maritime. While the women raced in four events competing against Fordham, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Maritime.
RACE SUMMARY
Men's Results
Freshman
Ethan Megal and sophomore
Thomas Koetzner started the morning off for the Gaels, earning second place in a tight race in the men's varsity pair, finishing with a time of 7:21, 13 seconds behind Fairfield.
Senior
Jacob Tivnan followed in the men's 1x taking home the gold medal, posting a winning time of 8:24.Â
In the men's novice 4, the quartet of sophomore
Zachary Morocho, freshman
Finn Bolger, Koetzner, Megal and sophomore
Hayden Skigen took home first place earning gold medal honors. In a finish that came down to the wire the Gaels edged Fairfield by four seconds, finishing with a time of 7:20.
In another close race, the Gaels took home fourth place in the men's varsity four event posting a respected time of 7:05. Competing for Iona were seniors

In the last race of the event, in another nail biter, the men's novice 8, took home second place falling two seconds short behind Fairfield, posting a time of 7:16.3. The group of eight for Iona included sophomores Skigen,

Women's results
The women's rowing team kicked off their morning in the varsity four, finishing in second place with a team of 7:48.7. In the event, Iona featured freshman
Cara Donnelly,
Layne McDonald, and
Grace Barber along with junior
Gwyneth Sauter and senior
Erin O'Brien.Â
The afternoon races started with the women's novice 4, and Iona completed the race with a time of 8:16.7 earning a second place and taking home the silver in the event. Contributing to the Maroon & Gold's second place finish in their collegiate debates were freshman Karla Derosa and
Grace Mutze.Â
In the women's 2x, Iona came in second place behind Fairfield finishing with a time of 8:49.9. O'Brien and Sauter competed in the event helping the Gaels earn another second place birth.
In the women's novice 8 Iona took home third place behind Fairfield and Sacred Heart, scoring a time of 8:37.1. The Gaels had five freshmen making their collegiate debuts in the race with
