NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College men's rowing program raced against the US Merchant Marine Academy and Manhattan College Saturday afternoon at Glen Island Park. The men raced in the Varsity 4 race, a Novice 4 race and a dual rowing event.
The start of the day saw the student-athletes facing 18 mile per hour head winds with up to 30 mile per hour gusts. As a result, the Varsity 4 race and two-person contest, which were scheduled to be raced over 2000-meters, was cut to 1,500-meter due to poor conditions. The remainder of the events of the day resumed at the traditional 2K distance.
The men's Varsity 4 boat dominated the competition and won the race in 5:29.6, beating out both Manhattan and USMMA by over 30 seconds. The Jaspers crossed the finish line in 5:46.9 and the Merchant Academy clocked in at 5:55.7.
In the Varsity 2 race, it was the USMMA who finished ahead of the rest in 5:34.1. Iona closed the race in 5:37.6. The second Merchant Academy boat finished the contest in 6:15.4. Kings Point had a pair in the 2x race. Pair given a length and a half lead.
In the men's Novice 4, the five Gaels in the primary boat won the race by 30 seconds over Manhattan, crossing the finish line in 7:29.0. The Jaspers clocked in at 8:09.6. The final Maroon & Gold boat of the day finished in 8:29.8.

Julianna LoRusso was the coxswain for the women's varsity 4 race.
MEN'S NOVICE 4 - BOAT 2 (RACE FIVE)
Hayden Skigen was the coxswain for the men's novice 4 race.
The final event of the 2021 season is the Dad Vail Regatta. The season's finale event is being held in in Philadelphia, PA on Schuykill River on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8.
