EDISON, NJ - Iona College men's basketball freshman guard
Walter Clayton Jr. earned his second straight MAAC Rookie of the Week honor after helping the Gaels to an 69-66 win over Marist at the Hynes Center Sunday afternoon.
Â
Clayton Jr. recorded 10 points, with the help of a clutch 6-for-7 effort from the free throw line in the win. He stuffed the stat sheet in his 21 minutes on the floor, with four assists, three rebounds and three steals. He was impactful on both ends of the floor posting a game-high plus/minus of +11, the only player on either side with a double-digit number in a contest where the largest lead for either team was just seven points.
Â
Clayton Jr. is now halfway to teammate
Nelly Junior Joseph's four wins last season who is the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year. It is the third weekly honor of the season for the Gaels as Junior Joseph was named MAAC Player of the Week on November 29, following his performance during the ESPN Events Invitational at Walt Disney World.
Â
With additional schedule changes announced earlier today, Iona's next slated contest is at Fairfield on Jan. 11.
