Iona SAAC Hosting Sixth Annual Lift-O-Ween Fundraiser

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting the sixth annual Lift-O-Ween fundraising event from October 24-28. Iona's student-athletes, in conjunction with the strength & conditioning staff, will be raising awareness and fundraising money for the Gullotta House.

The Gullotta House is a non-profit organization funded by Matthew Gullotta, whose purpose is aiding residents of Westchester County who face financial or other hardships. The Gullotta House provides food vouchers, scholarships to aid with the payment for education, holiday assistance, hosts outings and community entertainment events and by aiding community origination by providing additional assistance to their clients and participants.

Student-athletes will compete against one another as a team throughout the week during scheduled lift sessions. Monday and Tuesday will feature push-up contests, followed by weighted wall-sits on Wednesday and Thursday. Each individual program will compete against each other internally, with the top performers from select programs facing off against each other to crown a champion.

On Friday, October 28, the week of competition culminates with the Lift-O-Ween event inside Mulcahy Gymnasium. Members of the Gullotta House will be in attendance to join in on fun and games with the student-athletes. There will be a DJ, free food for the student-athletes and games, including corn-hole, rebus puzzles, putting contests, free-throw contests, tug-of-war and a candy corn guessing station.

There will be prizes for best individual costume, best group costume, individual lifting champion and team game champions. Voting will commence the day of the event on SAAC's social media channels.

Each of the past three years, the Maroon & Gold raised over $1,500 dollars for the Gullotta House through the efforts of Gael Nation and Iona SAAC.
