Oborilova & Aranguren are the Ridgewood Student Athletes of the Week

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Petra Oborilova and Jean Aranguren of the Men's & Women's basketball programs are the Ridgewood Savings Bank Student Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec 6-13. Both Gaels helped lead their teams to wins over Saint Francis (PA), Hofstra, and Sacred Heart. 

Freshman Jean Aranguren led the Gaels in two games last week averaging 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a 2.5:1 assist to turnover ratio and shot 78% from the field (11-14) and 66.7% from long distance (4-6). He scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds vs. Hofstra on Wednesday before a career high 20 point effort Sunday night vs. St. Francis. He scored eight in the decisive final three minutes of the contest including a four-point play that gave Iona the lead for good with 2:44 to play.

The sophomore forward averaged 13 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. She shot 60% (9-of-15) from the field and a stellar 58.3% (7-of-12) from downtown. Oborilova was effective in Iona's 59-54 win at Hofstra Thursday, going 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from distance for 14 points to go with three rebounds. She posted double figures once again in Saturday's 60-50 victory over Sacred Heart. The Slovakia native hit a team-high three triples on her way to 12 points. She grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and dished out three assists to go with two blocks on the defensive end. Oborilova paces the league circuit with a 54.0 shooting percentage from three-point range.
