Iona Water Polo Falls to #16 Wagner in MAAC Play

Box Score VILLANOVA, PA – Iona women's water polo program fell to no. 16 ranked Wagner, 20-12. Iona had five different Gaels scored, and the Maroon & Gold fell to 13-11, and back to .500 in the MAAC at 5-5.

Wagner stays undefeated in conference play improving to 10-0, the Seahawks ended the first quarter with a two goal lead over the Gaels, Iona's three goals came from Karsyn Stewart, Jenna Handali, and freshman Lola Trujilo. The second period ended just like the first with the Seahawks out scoring the Gaels by two. Handali and Jordan van Reeken were both responsible for the Goals in the second quarter.

Coming out of the halftime break the Gaels looked to climb out of the four goal lead. Being down 11-7 the offense could not keep up with Wagner as they were outscored 4-1 and the Seahawks entered the final 8 minutes with a commanding seven goal lead, 15-8. Iona's lone goal in the third was Stewarts second of the game. Iona's offense picked up in the final quarter but the hill to climb was too steep. Jordan van Reeken, Molly Banks and Jenna Handali all found the back of the net in the fourth.

UP NEXT
Gaels will play their final non-conference game of the season on April 12 as they travel to Connecticut college, game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
