Prayers for Iona Student-Athlete Lizzie Lovat

A Message from Matthew Glovaski, Director of Athletics, to Gael Nation:

We come together today to extend our thoughts and prayers to a beloved member of the Iona community, Lizzie Lovat. A student-athlete on the women's water polo team, Lizzie recently suffered a serious injury while on duty as a lifeguard in Huntington Beach, California.

In times of adversity, it is the unity and compassion of a community that can make a significant difference. That is why I ask for us to gather our collective strength around Lizzie and her loved ones during this difficult time. Together, our thoughts and prayers can serve as a powerful force of healing, strength and comfort as we direct our positive energy toward Lizzie's recovery.

Please know that we have been in touch with the family and they extend their gratitude for your support and prayers. Let's please be mindful, however, to respect their privacy during this time.

Thank you all for your compassion and for being an integral part of Gael Nation.

A Message from Brian Kelly, Head Coach of Iona Water Polo:

Lizzie is a tremendous student-athlete and an amazing person. She is one of the most coachable water polo players that I've ever had. Lizzie is an extremely creative two-way player in the pool who also excels in the classroom as a Dean's List student every semester at Iona University. She loves being a part of Iona, the water polo program and the Iona community. She is loved by so many at Iona, especially by her water polo family. We are praying for her daily to have a speedy recovery.
