Iona Acrobatics & Tumbling Takes Down Morgan State, 255.690-230.505

BALTIMORE, MD - The No. 15 Iona University acrobatics & tumbling team earned its second victory of the season in a 255.690-230.505 win over Morgan State University in a National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association matchup at Hill Field House. The Gaels won all six events and lost just two out of 20 total heats in the program's first-ever road matchup.

COMPULSORY

Iona took the opening event, 36.15-34.85. Highlighted by a 9.70 score in the Pyramid Heat, the Maroon & Gold also posted a +.75 differential in the Acro Heat.

ACRO

The Gaels won the second event by nearly four points, 27.45-23.65. Iona's top heat score came in the Five-Element round with a
9.50. The team also posted a +2.1 differential in the Seven-Element Heat.

PRYRAMID

Iona led by more than nine points at the halftime break (92.85-83.20) after winning the Pyramid Event 29.25-24.70. The team posted scores of
9.85 in the Inversion Heat and 9.80 in the Open heat and earned all .75 of a possible 30 total points.

TOSS

Following halftime, the Gaels continued to shine, winning the toss heat 25.80-22.90. Iona took the 450 Salto and Open Heats but surrendered the Synchronized heat by just .05 points.

TUMBLING

Iona earned heat wins in five of the six tumbling rounds with a narrow defeat in the Trio Pass Heat. The event score was 52.300-51.075.
Junior Alyssa Lentz earned the highest score in the event with a 9.375 in the Aerial Pass Heat. Graduate Athena Martinez posted a
9.350 in the Six-Element Pass Heat and freshman Olivia Montalbano scored a 9.075 in the Open Pass Heat.

TEAM EVENT

The Gaels put a capper on the 25+ point win with an 84.74-73.33 advantage in the Team Event finale.

The Gaels return home next Sunday (March 3) to host No. 1 Baylor on Sunday, March 3 at the Hynes Center.
