TEANECK, NJ — The Iona University baseball team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 19-2 in midweek matchup at Naimoli Family Baseball on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME SUMMARY
Iona got going in the top of the first as Ragsdale reached on a hit by pitch. He then swiped second to get in scoring position with one out. Gonzalez lined a single to right field for the 1-0 lead. The Gaels looked to add on more runs later in the inning with runners on second and third with two outs, but FDU got out of the inning on a strikeout.
The Knights took hold of the lead in the second inning on a two-run single to left field with two outs. FDU then added three more runs on a one-out single RBI single to left and a three-run home run takes a 5-1 advantage.
Freshman
Carter Groen led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field. He would score all the way from first on a double to centerfield by classmate, JC Frias for the Gaels second run of the game.
FDU broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, platting eight runs on four hits including four RBI walks to grab a 13-2 advantage. The Knights capped the scoring with one run in the fifth inning and five runs in the eighth to take the matchup.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Eight batters combined for the 10 Iona hits for the game.
- Gonzalez recorded his fifth multi-hit game hit season. He also drove in his 18th run of the season with the first inning RBI single.
- Groen added his second two-hit game of the season.
- Senior Teo Torrado fanned a team-high four batters in two and two third innings of relief.
- Starter sophomore Andrew Gaines and redshirt sophomore Tyler Lender both struck out three batters.

Next up for the Gaels is the home opener at City Park on Saturday, March 16. Iona will take on Holy Cross in a doubleheader beginning at noon to begin the weekend series.
