NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University acrobatics and tumbling team cruised to a 261.610-125.000 victory over Georgian Court University in its final home contest of the 2024 campaign. The Gaels finished ahead of the Lions in every heat of the match.
COMPULSORY
Iona built a sizeable lead in the opening frame, leading Georgian Court by nearly 14 points after the Compulsory Event. The Gaels' pyramid and toss heats saw scores of 9.65 and 9.55, respectively. The squad's +6.45 margin in the tumbling heat was its largest in any heat this season. Iona took the event 36.30-22.65.
ACRO
The Gaels added eight more points to its lead after the Acro Event, scoring nine or higher in all three heats. The seven-element heat saw a score of 9.55 while the five-element heat was a 9.50. Iona won 28.15-21.45.
PYRAMID
The Pyramid Event saw a loss of just .8 points of the 30 max for the Maroon & Gold. The open heat was Iona's top score of the night with a 9.85. The inversion heat came in just under with a 9.75. Iona took the event 29.20-23.70 and led 93.65-67.80 at the break,
TOSS
Iona saw success in the Toss Event again, losing just .8 points from its maximum possible score. The team's 450 Salto heat quintet earned the top score of 9.25. The Gaels added to their margin with a 26.60-18.30 event win.
TUMBLING
In the penultimate event, the Gaels won 51.40-38.90. A 9.55 in the aerial heat by junior
Alyssa Lentz and a 9.40 in the six-element heat by freshman
Olivia Montalbano led the way.
TEAM EVENT
With Georgian Court unable to compete, Iona posted an 89.96 in the finale to earn the 136 point victory.
OVERALL
With a top score possibility of 285.41 based on start values, the Gaels earned all but 23.80 points, .2 shy of its season best effort.
