FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Iona University baseball team fell in the series finale to Fairfield, 12-0 in seven innings at Cook Field on Sunday afternoon.
GAME SUMMARY
Fairfield got off to a commanding lead from the jump, utilizing two three-run home runs in both the first and second innings and an RBI double to go up 7-0 early.
Sophomore
Anthony Zollo recorded the first of two Iona hits for the day with a leadoff single in the bottom of the third inning. He would advance to third on a ground out and wild pitch, but Fairfield escaped the inning with back-to-back strikeouts.
The Stags tacked on two more runs in the fourth on an RBI walk and wild pitch.
Junior
Jayson Gonzalez registered the final hit for the Gaels with a leadoff base knock through the left side.
Fairfield added a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single and tacked on two more in the seventh on an Iona throwing error and RBI single to right field to cap the scoring for the finale.

As City Park continues to get work done after last weekend's storm left the field unplayable, the Gaels scheduled home game against LIU on Tuesday, April 2 will now take place at LIU Baseball Stadium with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The return game of the home and home series that was to take place at LIU on Tuesday, April 16 will now be held at City Park.
