NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona University baseball team returned to City Park on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 12-2 decision to Wagner in a midweek non-conference tilt.
GAME SUMMARY
Wagner got off to a strong start with four hits and capitalizing on two Iona errors to score three runs in the top of the first inning.
The Seahawks added two runs in the second, a run in a third before a five-run sixth inning to take total control of the game.
Iona's bats were stifled for the first six innings of play as the lone hit came off the bat of freshman
Carter Groen in the first inning.
The Gaels got going in the bottom of the seventh as graduate student
Jim Pasquale reached on a hit by pitch. Graduate student
Garret Gray followed with a laser to the gap in right center for an RBI double as Pasquale scored all the way from first to get Iona on the scoreboard. After a foul out, redshirt-freshman
Jordan Overton connected on a 3-2 pitch and sent it to left center for an RBI double to score the second run of inning.
Wagner capped the scoring for the game with one last run in the eighth to take the game 12-2. The Seahawks outhit Iona 15-5 to take the season series between the two metropolitan schools.

The Gaels take on local rival Manhattan this weekend in a MAAC series held at Westchester Community College. Game one of the three-game set is slated for Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m. from Vikings Field.
