EDISON, NJ— The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Men's Soccer Major Awards and All-MAAC Teams on Monday morning. The Iona University men's soccer ream was represented with seven All-MAAC Honorees, tied for the league-high this season.
The Gaels had four student-athletes named to the All-MAAC Second Team with sophomore
Alvaro Maneiro at forward and senior
Bruno Rivera, junior
Jaime Roman Jr. and freshman
Andres Becerra at defense. Iona placed three on the All-MAAC Third Team in rookie
Enbiya Bolur, junior
Calle Sjoberg and sophomore
Fernando Alves Schmelz earning distinctions.
Alvaro Maneiro - All-MAAC SECOND TEAM (FORWARD)
Maneiro has appeared in all 17 games for the Maroon & Gold this season at forward. He leads the team with 16 points and seven goals in 2025, both career highs. Maneiro came up clutch for the Gaels in the MAAC Championship first round win on Sunday with his first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over Quinnipiac. He currently ranks third in the MAAC in goals scored and is fourth in points.
ANDRES BECERRA - All-MAAC SECOND TEAM (DEFENSE)
Becerra has had a stellar rookie campaign at left-wing back on the Gaels defense. The Port Chester, NY native has appeared in 16 games with 15 starts, logging 1,177 minutes played. He and the rest of the defense have held opponents to just 1.00 goals per game and a league best six shutouts this season.
JAIME ROMAN JR. - All-MAAC SECOND TEAM (DEFENSE)
Roman, Iona's captain has appeared in and started in 14 games as the right-wing back for the Iona defense, logging 1096 minutes played. The junior has led the defensive unit that ranks second in goals allowed and has recorded a season best six clean sheets. On the offensive end, he ranks third on the team with a career-high four assists this season. Roman picked up the first multi-assist game of his career earlier this season with a pair of assists in the 5-3 victory over Saint Peter's.
BRUNO RIVERA - All-MAAC SECOND TEAM (DEFENSE)
Rivera has made 16 starts as the left-center back for the Iona defense. He ranks fourth on the team with 1,242 minutes played and has helped the team to a 1.00 goals against average and six shutouts in 2025. Rivera has one assist on the offensive end with a setup pass that led to the game winning goal in the 3-0 victory over Stonehill.
ENBIYA BOLUR - All-MAAC THIRD TEAM (FORWARD)
Bolur has appeared in 15 games with 10 starts at forward for the Gaels. A two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week during the regular season has registered 10 points on four goals and two assists this year. He ranks tied for second on the team in goals and fourth in points. Bolur leads the Maroon & Gold and ranks second in the MAAC with three game winning goals in 2025.
CALLE SJOBERG - All-MAAC THIRD TEAM (MIDFIELD)
The Bellarmine transfer has appeared in all 17 games for the Gaels this season with 11 starts at midfield. He has tallied 13 points in his first campaign in New Rochelle, ranking second on the team. Sjoberg's seven assists this year lead the team and rank second in the conference. He picked up his first multi-assist game of the season in Iona's 5-0 victory over Quinnipiac in the MAAC Championship first round this past Sunday. Sjoberg also logged one-goal and one-assist twice during the regular season in the 5-3 victory over Saint Peter's and the 3-1 win at Manhattan.
FERNANDO ALVES SCHMELZ - All-MAAC THIRD TEAM (GOALKEEPER)
Schmelz is now a two-time All-MAAC selection after earning All-MAAC Second Team honors last season. He appeared in 14 games with 12 starts and 1,170 minutes played. Schmelz has tallied a 6-2-5 record with 43 saves and a .92 goals against average in 2025. He picked up one MAAC Defense Player of the Week recipient during the regular season. For the season, he ranks second among MAAC goalkeepers in goals against average and is third in save percentage at 78.2%. Schmelz also ranks second in shutouts with four in his sophomore campaign with the Maroon & Gold.
