Box Score 4 TEMPE, AZ - The Iona women's water polo program traveled out to the west coast for the third weekend of the season, they opened the trip with a win in a rematch against Salem, 19-9. Later in the day the Gaels fell to Cal State Fullerton, 13-8. On Sunday the Gaels fell to the host school Arizona State, 21-9 and then fell in a close match againt fellow MAAC opponent LIU, 14-11
In the win over Salem,
Kaitlyn Williams and
Vanessa McNabb combined for seven goals.
Sadie Sallas,
Emily Geld, and Olivia Wiessman each scored two goals, while
Lola Trujillo, Ana O'Malley,
Addison Collins,
Mikayla Arthur, Grace Gold Hammer and
Maleah Penman all found the back of the net once.
In net for the Maroon and Gold
Lilly Morris picked up the win, making 12 saves and three steals. She also helped on the offensive side of the pool with two assists.
Ella Dean saw action in the fourth making six saves. As a team the Gaels assisted on nine goals and drew seven exclusions.
Lola Trujillo won all four swim-offs.
In the loss the Maroon & Gold scored eight goals on 28 shots with
Remy Ickes leading the way with three goals,
Sadie Sallas found the back of the net twice for the second straight game. Penman, Geld, and Goldhammer added one apiece. Collins accounted for two of the four teams assists.
Morris made the start in game two making nine saves on 22 shots faced, she added three more steals for six on the day. As a team the Gaels drew a season high 16 exclusions. Iona went 4-0 in swim offs, Trujillo accounting for three and Goldhammer with the lone one.
Agaisnt ASU the Gaels scored nine goals, Wiessman was the only Gael to record two or more goals. Iona only assisted on one of the nine goals. Goalies
Lilly Morris and
Ella Dean split time in net. Morris made four saves allowing 12 goals and added three steals in the first half. Freshman Dean made five saves, allowing nine goals. As a team Iona eigth kick-outs, with Wiessman and Goldhamer with three each.
In a non-conference tilt against LIU, Iona faced a goal defeicit entering the second half. Iona's offense was led by Geld, Sallas, and Trujillo as they combined for seven goals. Geld also added a game high two assists for a team high of five points. In net
Lilly Morris made 14 saves on 30 shots faced, also added a team high four steals. Wiessman and Sallas combined for six kick-outs drawn. Trujillo went 7-0 on swim-offs in the two games on Sunday.
Iona will go about a month without play before they open the 2025 MAAC regular season on Mar. 15 in Lexington, VA against La Salle & LIU.
