THE Rundown
The Gaels came storming out of the gate in Long Island, stringing together a few good defensive stops before
Matthew Dyszkiewicz rifled a 10-yard shot to the bottom right of the Stony Brook goal. The freshman took home his third goal of the season, assisted by
Cooper Metz. The Seawolves responded with their own goal with four minutes left in the stanza, and seemingly found the advantage two minutes later, before the goal was called back for a crease violation. The two sides headed out of the first stanza locked at one apiece, the Gaels best defensive quarter of the season.Â
Iona continued their momentum with a first career goal from
Richie Karstien, the midfielder streaking down the entire length of the field and slotting the ball home. A minute later, Dyszkiewicz scooped up a ground ball and netted a 15-yard scorcher to take the Gaels' lead to two. The Sea Wolves would respond again before
Cullen Lawry found the back of the net after controlling a Stony Brook turnover. The Gaels would head into the locker room up 4-2. Â Â Â
The hosts responded out of the break with four unanswered in the opening seven minutes of second half play before
Jake Riglietti responded with a solo effort goal. One more goal from the Seawolves before the end of the quarter meant that the two sides headed in to the final stanza at a score of 7-5. Â
