NEW ROCHELLE, NY –  The Iona University men's lacrosse team faced off against Jacksonville University at noon on Sunday, in the Gaels' last non-conference tilt of the season. A physical battle at Mazzella field saw both teams finish in double-figure penalties. Despite 11 caused turnovers as a team, along with 11 saves from
, the Gaels would succumb to the visitors by a score of 18-4. Â Â
THE Rundown
The visitors came out of the gate firing all cylinders, netting four goals in the first period off nine shots. The Gaels applied pressure, forcing half a dozen saves off nine shots, but the Dolphins headed out of the first stanza up 4-0. Â
Back for the second quarter Jacksonville repeated more of the same offensive action, this time scoring five in the quarter, taking the two sides into the locker rooms with a score of 9-0 in favor of the Dolphins. Â
The second half started with Jacksonville scoring a Fogo goal in the opening minute. The visitors would score another before Matt Dsyzkiewicz netted his fifth of the season on a solo take. For the next Maroon & Gold goal in the quarter,

Jack Martinez in front of the net, with Martinez slotting home an impressive around the back goal for Gaels' second of the day. A response from Jacksonville completed their best offensive quarter, scoring six and heading into the final quarter up by a score of 15-2.Â
Jake Riglietti would break the Dolphin's momentum in the opening minutes of the fourth, finding the net off a
Vincent Pititto assist. The Huntington, New York native grabbed his second minutes later, with the assist this time from
Jack Martinez. The visitors would again respond, however, tallying three goals before the final whistle and leaving New Rochelle with a victory as the Gaels dropped the game 18-4. Â
IONA PERFORMERS
- Jake Riglietti took home his second two-goal game of the season, landing all three of his shots on goal and scooping up a pair of ground balls. Riglietti has now tallied two or more points in four of six games this season. Â
- Jack Martinez was the second Gael with a two-point tally, scoring one goal and tossing out one assist. Taking four shots and landing all on target, the Attackman also grabbed one ground ball. Â
- Cooper Metz led all players on the field with four caused turnovers, a career high. The Springfield, Virginia native also landed one-short of tying another career high with three ground balls. Â
- Jimmy Kennedy was the second player to total three ground balls, finishing the game with his third assist of the season. Â
- Matthew Dyszkiewicz led the Gaels with half a dozen shots on goal, landing one in the back of the net for his fifth of the season. Â
- Vincent Pititto handed out one assist, scooped up one ground ball, and fired off two shots.Â
- Denny Piekutowski finished the game with 11 saves, his third time this season in double figures. Â
THE OPPONENT
- Jack Taylor led all players on field with eight points in a six-goal two-assist outing. Â
- Daylin John-Hill completed a hat trick in both goals and assists in a six point outing. Â
