THE Rundown
The visitors took the early lead with their first shot in the opening minute, before rifling home their second four minutes later. The Red Foxes would net another before
Kyle Hardie responded with his first goal of the season, slotting home a ball in the bottom left corner. The Gaels conceded three more to complete the stanza down 6-1.Â
Kyle Hardie struck the back of the net for the second time to open the second quarter scoring, before
Cullen Lawry made it two points in quick succession for the Gaels with an assist from
Jimmy Kennedy. After a response from Marist,
Matthew Dyszkiewicz grabbed his sixth goal of the season and the Gaels went into the locker room down 7-4.Â
The Gaels would hold strong through the first five minutes of the second half, but a shot from the visitors would find the back of the net to open the second half scoring. A response from
Jimmy Kennedy would hand him his second point of the game, finding the back of the net on another Gael solo effort. The two sides would finish with one goal apiece in the third, the Gaels heading into the final period down 8-5.Â
An immediate  fourth goal from
Vincent Pititto brought the game within two, before
Kyle Hardie rifled home the third of his hat-trick with an assist from
Jake Riglietti to take Iona within one score. The Red Foxes put up four unanswered to close out the game, and hand the Gaels a 12-7 defeat. Â
IONA PERFORMERS
- Kyle Hardie scored a career-first goal in Maroon & Gold before adding two more for a hat-trick. The Denville, New Jersey native took four shots with three of them landing on frame and scooped up one ground ball.Â
- Jimmy Kennedy recorded his third game of the season with two points or more, counting one goal and one assist. The captain took five shots with three on goal. Â
- With an assist today, reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Jake Riglietti stands as the only Iona player to record at least one point in every game played.Â
- Denny Piekutowski tallied 11 saves, his third game in a row reaching double figures.Â
- Matthew Dyszkiewicz and Cullen Lawry recorded their sixth and 16th goals this season respectively.Â
THE OPPONENT
- Collin Patrick and Joshua Balcarcel each had five-point nights, both with three goals and two assists. Â
