Danny Onorato got the start and went four innings allowing just one run handing the bullpen a 5-1 game with five innings to go. LIU would beat the Gaels on small ball with six out of seven hits being singles and stealing five bases as a team.
Game Summary
The Gaels went up early to a 5-0 lead in the first three and a half innings. Junior Damian Rodriguez led off with a single followed by a walk from sophomore Jc Frias. They would advance on a wild pitch before freshman Sean Stephenson would hit a sacrifice fly to go up 1-0. Graduate student Jayson Gonzalez would slap a two out single to right field to go up 2-0 before the top of the first ended. Onorato had a quick first only allowing a walk. In the second he would work out of runners on the corners with one out getting a strike out and fly out. Iona in the third inning would score three runs with two outs in the inning. Frias was hit by a pitch, Stephenson would single before Frias scored on a wild pitch. Gonzalez would draw a walk before two more runners would score on a double from Wessels. The 5-0 lead was short lived as LIU would get their first run with a sacrifice fly.
Onorato would get pulled by sophomore Saul Mata who would be greeted with a long home run cutting the lead to 5-2. Maul would retire the next three and end the inning. He would come back out for the sixth and walk the lead off man before striking out the next. Graduate student Joseph Bekios would enter and face the only batter he saw, senior Joey Kasper would enter the game and after a fly out he would give up two singles tying the game at five all before the inning ended. Junior Sean Davis would go for two innings and only give up one hit. Junior Jackson Kossow would take the ninth inning and hit the first batter who would steal second and advance to third on a ground out. He would score on an RBI single and the Sharks would walk off winners.
Kossow was handed the loss, his first of the year and LIU's Breton got the win.
