FAIRFIELD, CT — The Iona University Baseball team lost Saturday afternoon at Sacred Heart 3-0. Sacred Heart finished off the swept and appear to be holding strong in fifth place in the MAAC standings. Freshman
Justin Trinidad was a highlight in the Gaels loss going six innings only allowing a run, but outside of freshman
Sean Stephenson, the Maroon & Gold offense was silent.
Game Summary
The Gaels had very few scoring chances all game, their best chance came in the top of the fourth with two men on and two outs, but a strike out prevented any scoring chance. Sacred Heart got their first run after a lead off double then advanced on a ground out and scoring on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Sophomore Brendan Callanan would replace Trinidad and go the rest of the game allowing two runs in two innings. Both runs would score in the seventh after a fielding error with the bases loaded put SHU up 3-0.
Trinidad was tagged with the loss and Sacred Heart's Parker earned the win, while Matuschat got the save.
