EDISON, NJ – A school-record 305 student-athletes from Iona University were named to the 2024-25 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll, announced this morning. The conference recognized 3,662 student-athletes from its full-time and associate members, also marking an all-time high.
To qualify for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The honor roll includes student-athletes from both full-time and associate member institutions. Twenty of Iona's 23 MAAC-sponsored programs were represented. Additionally, the Gaels' men's rowing, men's water polo, and women's acrobatics and tumbling teams accounted for 56 more student-athletes who met the academic criteria.
Among the 359 total Iona student-athletes maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, 240 carry a GPA of 3.50 or better, and 41 boast a 3.90 or higher. Five Gaels hold a perfect 4.0: graduate student

Miles Rivera (men's cross country/track and field), Garrett Shivell (men's lacrosse),
Sofia Lumbreras (women's cross country/track and field), and
Violet Strong (acrobatics and tumbling). They are joined by women's water polo freshmen

Bailey Desmond,
Grace Goldhammer, and
Blaize Penso.
Iona set its previous high last year with 266 student-athletes named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll. The 359 recognized this year represent more than 70 percent of Iona's student-athlete population.
First-year MAAC member Sacred Heart led all schools with 438 honorees. Marist followed with 375. Mount St. Mary's placed third with 343, ahead of Merrimack with 314 and Iona with 305.
