OCALA, FL - Behind the strength of five strong relays over three days, including Saturday's 400-yard Freestyle Relay, the Iona University Men's Swimming team claimed 20th out of 36 teams in the 2026 National Invitational Championship in Ocala, Florida.
On Saturday the team of Junior Harry Platt (45.25); Freshmen James Gonzalez (44.87); and Juniors Nate Wales (44.75) and Kieran Egan (43.86) posted a season best time of 2:58.73, which was .05 better than their gold medal effort at the February MAAC Championships.
The effort was good enough for 13th place in the event and locked the team into 20th place in the 46-event meet with 170.50 points. Queens (818.5); Ohio State (746.5); Grand Canyon (631); Duke (529); George Washington (440) and Towson (371) claimed the top six spots. Notably the Iona men were the highest rated MAAC contingent with Niagara (152.5); Mount Saint Mary's (85) and Marist (80) in 21st, 24th and 25th positions respectively.
Individually Saturday, Egan was the lone individual scorer placing fifteenth with a finals time of 1:47.09, after a preliminary effort of 1:46.91.
