EDISON, NJ— Rookie
Melissa Gordon of the Iona University softball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Gordon posted a 2-0 week in the circle for the Gaels.
The Levittown, NY native pitched 17 innings this past week, registering two wins an a 1.24 earned run average. She held opposing batters to a .219 batting average for the week. She opened the week with her first complete game as a Gael, pitching all seven innings in the 9-2 victory over Stony Brook on Wednesday for her first collegiate victory.
Gordon then logged her first conference win in game two on Saturday, scattering three hits and two walks in the 10-2 victory over Quinnipiac. The Levittown, NY native closed out the weekend with five innings of relief in Sunday's setback to the Bobcats.
Iona continues its homestand on Thursday, March 19 with a 2 p.m. matchup against Maine at Donald E. Walsh Field.
