POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Iona University men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision to Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Tenney Stadium. A decisive third quarter by the Red Foxes proved to be the difference, while rookie
Carson Turissini recorded his first collegiate hat trick to pace the Gaels.
THE RUNDOWN
Marist opened the afternoon with a 3-0 lead after one quarter and pushed its advantage to four early in the second. Turissini put Iona on the board at the 11:47 mark off an assist from sophomore
Cullen Lawry. The Red Foxes responded with two more goals to build a 6-1 cushion before back-to-back unassisted tallies from sophomore
Kyle Hardie trimmed the deficit to 6-3 at the half.
The home side seized control in the third quarter, scoring the first seven goals of the period. Freshman
Luke Neary halted the run with a man-up tally in the closing seconds of the frame.
Turissini accounted for the final scoring in the fourth quarter, adding a pair of unassisted goals at 7:52 and 3:56 to complete his three-goal performance.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Turissini notched his first collegiate hat trick, marking his third multi-goal game and team-leading eighth multi-point effort this season.
- Hardie followed with his second consecutive multi-goal outing, finishing with two scores.
- Sophomore Cooper Metz controlled possession with a team-high four ground balls.
- Sophomore Noah Perea anchored the defense with 15 saves in net.
THE OPPONENT
- Brady Dolan powered the Marist attack with four goals and three assists.
- Collin Patrick and Peter Murray each contributed three goals in the win.
- Goalkeepers Richie Metzger and Adam Wachholder combined for 12 saves.
UP NEXT
Iona returns to Mazzella Field on Wednesday to host Mount St. Mary's. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
