NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona University men's basketball graduate student
Lamin Sabally was one of three MAAC student-athletes named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Wednesday. Sabally completed his lone season in Maroon & Gold after transferring from the University of the Incarnate Word.
Selected by College Sports Communicators, the Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 while meeting minimum playing time requirements. Sabally posted a 3.51 GPA at Incarnate Word and a 3.80 GPA while pursuing his MBA at Iona's LaPenta School of Business.
Sabally was joined on the team by Saint Peter's Lucas Scroggins and Siena's Brendan Coyle. He becomes the third Iona men's basketball student-athlete to earn the honor since 2000, joining Arrigoni Hall of Famer Steve Burtt in 2006 and former international standout Jan Svandrlik in 2018.
