BUFFALO, NY – Canisius used a five-goal run to close the contest and defeat the Iona University men's lacrosse team, 10-5, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Demske Sports Complex. Sophomore

THE RUNDOWN
Canisius jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter before the Maroon & Gold responded with a strong second period to pull within one before halftime. Sophomore
Jake Riglietti put the visitors on the board less than two minutes into the second on a man-up goal off a feed from Turissini.
Neary and Lawry followed with back-to-back tallies to cap a three-goal run that trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with 5:09 remaining in the half. The teams exchanged goals in the closing minutes as Lawry struck again to make it a 5-4 game heading into the break.
Midway through the third quarter, Turissini found Neary for the equalizer with 8:04 on the clock. The Griffs regained the lead with 1:18 remaining in the period, then added four goals in the final quarter to secure the 10-5 victory.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Neary paced the attack with two goals on a team-high seven shot attempts.
- Lawry added two tallies on five shots, placing three attempts on goal.
- Turissini recorded his sixth multi-point effort of the season with two assists.
- Kennedy posted his fourth straight and fifth game of the year with two or more points.
- Rookie Cole Gibstein led the squad with four ground balls and won four faceoffs.
- Gibstein, Turissini, Gary Shivell, and Kaiden Lewis each caused two turnovers to pace the defensive effort.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Noah Perea turned aside 15 shots in net.
THE OPPONENT
- Quinn Huber led Canisius with four goals in the victory.
- Carson Christy added four points with a goal and three assists.
- Micah Hanson controlled the ground game with 11 ground balls while Alexis Simard caused five turnovers.
- Sam Kosloski made nine saves between the pipes.
TEAM STATS
- Canisius finished with a 40-32 advantage in shots and held a 40-21 edge in ground balls.
- The two teams were nearly even in turnovers, with the Griffs committing 26 and Iona 25.
UP NEXT
Iona continues MAAC play next Saturday when it hosts Manhattan at Mazzella Field on Mar. 14. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
