Alex Schulz and junior
Tyaja Thomas represented the Iona University women's outdoor track and field team at the Battle Road Track Club Twilight Meet on Saturday at Morrison Track on the campus of MIT in Cambridge, MA. The event served as a final opportunity to qualify for the 2026 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Lexington, KY, with both Gaels earning event victories in their respective competitions.
5,000-METER RUN
Freshman
Alex Schulz captured first place among 11 finishers in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:44.81. Schulz's performance came shy of her season and personal-best mark of 16:15.27 recorded earlier this season at Raleigh. Entering the final weekend before NCAA East Preliminary selections, that time ranked 88th in the East Region standings.
JAVELIN THROW
Junior
Tyaja Thomas competed in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.62 meters. The throw measured four feet, three inches shy of her season and personal-best performance of 45.90 meters set at last week's MAAC Championships. Entering the weekend, Thomas ranked No. 51 in the NCAA East Region and sat on the qualification bubble for the NCAA East First Rounds. Thomas competed unopposed while attempting to improve her regional standing.

Iona awaits selection for the 2026 NCAA East First Rounds taking place May 28 and 30 in Lexington, KY at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.
